Amnesty International
Combatting Police Brutality with Design Thinking & Leadership Coaching
Capacitated on-the-ground leaders to prototype systems of change and re-strategize their approach to influence and control.

The Challenge
Amnesty International challenged us to leverage design thinking to lessen the impact of police brutality in two of their key partnering countries — El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago.
Police oversight and monitoring were only getting worse, and local organizations were running out of ideas and energy to turn the ship around. The executives leading the work were already overworked and overexerted, with extremely limited capacity to grow.
The Approach
We designed hands-on workshops that delivered customized coaching for these executives — teaching them to use the design-thinking process to develop solutions grounded in their communities' real needs.
Rather than impose a method, we catered our approach to their existing mission so they could see returns aligned with their strategic priorities.
The Process
Coached leaders on weeding through the noise to identify community needs with more clarity than ever before.
Pivoted a fixed curriculum roadmap into individualized coaching sessions built around each team's momentum.
Moved executives from talking about a solution to prototyping and learning directly from key stakeholders.
The Outcome
Amnesty proudly says their teams got farther in their work than ever before.
Teams created 9+ validated prototypes and secured additional funding toward implementing their solutions.
